SO YOU WANNA COMPETE, HUH?
Congrats, you are a brave soul, or perhaps a foolish one. Either way, welcome to the gauntlet.
Last year, we had folks sign up to compete on a physical sign up sheet on the day of the competition. A lot of enthusiastic eaters missed out on competing because they didn’t get the memo. This year we are doing things differently, in an effort to allow our strongest and most enthusiastic food consumers to compete.
Fifteen people will compete for the crown on July 4th.
We are reserving five of the fifteen slots for day-of signups. Those five slots will prioritize active duty military and first responders. We want to thank our active duty military and first responders by giving them a chance to compete. If more than five active duty military personnel or first responders sign up to compete (which we expect), there will be a brief qualifying round held in front of the audience. The top five performers will earn a seat at the contest.
Ten of the fifteen competitor slots will be pre-selected based on our at-home two part qualifying round.
PART ONE: Fill out this brief survey (click me).
PART TWO: Film yourself eating as many hot dogs as possible in 2 minutes and 49 seconds and post the video online in a place that we can share it (youtube, facebook). If that is too difficult, you can send us a video and we will post it.
We will select nine contestants who eat the most amount of hot dogs in 2 minutes and 49 seconds (in honor of our country's age).
We will select one contestant who eats hot dogs with the most panache in 2 minutes and 49 seconds.
We encourage creativity. Wow us with your hot dog eating prowess.
The video should include your name, mention the Port Angeles July 4th celebration, and be sharable. Know that we intend to share these videos.
Click here to watch a sample video submission. (Trigger warning: gross).
The survey and video must be submitted by Monday June 30th. We have extended the qualifying round to Thursday July 3rd. Submitting a video at this point guarantees your participation in the main event with cash prizes. Applicants who do not submit a video will have to participate in a same-day qualifier on July 4th. This will handicap your performance in the main event. Video submissions are encouraged.
